What's Wrong With This Picture?

"And there I was..."
Alright, we aim to offend.
What's wrong with this picture?  Nothing.  That's what's wrong with it.
But some people are having serious difficulty with this picture.

"There's sushi!"
"There's tacos!"
"This doesn't inspire to adventure!"

Know what that's called?
A lack of imagination.

You see... sushi was around during the Tokugawa Shogunate.
Tacos are even older than that.

Neither of these things are "modern". The complaint is that it's ethnic food.
Oh, but hey, there's pumpkin there.  But that's Western food and that's okay, even though that's from the New World.  Bet they won't complain about corn or potatoes, either.
Which is why we're calling Bullshit on this. They don't like it because it's not European / Western Fantasy.

And the complaint that the picture doesn't inspire adventure?
Listen, peeps. What do your characters do between adventures? Know what our characters do? The same thing they do during adventures. They go to the tavern, they meet NPCs, they regale the crowd with our exploits. What we do between adventures is just as important as what we do during adventures.  We visit shops, we hang out in taverns and inns, we meet people, and we interact with those people.

What do your characters do between adventures?
Do you actually roleplay, or is it dungeon crawls 24/7?
Do your characters have lives outside the dungeon?

Let people have their fun.

Mechanics and Setting

General Brolynn looked out over the battlefield. The war had been a tough one, but the final battle was taking place, and he knew his unit was going to be key to victory. An ogre stepped out of the mass of fighting bodies and leered at Brolynn and his unit of soldiers. "Attack!" One of his knights rushed forward and began attacking the ogre.  The rest stood still. "I said, Attack!" Another knight rushed forward to begin swinging at the ogre.  Brolynn just stared at the others. "Uh, what did you want us to do, General?" asked one. "Attack!"   Many There’s something wrong. Where are we? It’s dark. His eyes opened.  We looked out, and we saw a simple clay and thatch room. We were laying on simple quilts over a pile of straw.
